Getting quality Special Education Services for your child:
Before the IEP Meeting:

We request needed assessments in writing or get independent assessments.

We ask to obtain assessment reports one week before the IEP meeting.
-
We meet and prepare for the meeting and make a list of the points you want raised
at the IEP meeting.

Consider full inclusion or increased integration.
At the IEP Meeting:
-
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, make sure you understand the verbiage used at meeting.

We will discuss the present level of your child’s performance.

We will develop annual goals and either short-term objectives or a schedule of progress reports to monitor your child’s progress.

Identify full inclusion or integration opportunities and the supports needed for success

We will describe the placement for your child and identify specifically the supports and related services needed.

You will sign the IEP only if you are satisfied.
After the IEP Meeting:

You may wish to consider a meeting with your child’s teacher’s at the beginning of the year - Be a classroom volunteer if possible and/or participate in school activities.

Support your child in developing friendships with his/her classmates.

Monitor your child’s progress and keep our office informed.
If you are dissatisfied with the services offered by your child’s school:

We can assist you in filing a Compliance Complaint, if the school district does not follow the rules or fails to provide services required in a signed IEP.

We can file for a Due Process hearing, if you and the school district cannot agree on the special education services appropriate for your child.
